The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts has partnered with the Montgomery Art Guild (MAG) to present a biennial exhibition of contemporary regional art in its galleries since 1960. The 2021 exhibition contains an exciting variety of media, subjects, and themes, representing the “best of the best” artists within our River Region. During the MMFA/MAG exhibit's 61-year history, many of the works submitted have been selected by the show's juror for award honors.
More than a decade ago, the MAG Board of Directors and the MMFA began a tradition of selecting a guest artist whose work would be showcased in a solo exhibit to run concurrently with the juried exhibition. This practice honors the selected artist's past and current work, successes and achievements. The artwork presented in the solo exhibition may be current or retrospective, offering museum-goers glimpses of history and new work surprises while furthering the Museum's dedication to art education. This year's guest artist is painter Marguerite Edwards.
The Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held at the Museum Friday May 21, from 5:30 – 7 pm. It is Free and open to the public.
Support for this exhibition was provided by sponsors: AlaCOMP, Elizabeth Crump, and Laura and Barrie Harmon, with additional support from co-sponsors Dan Harris, Montgomery County Commission; Ann Hubbert; Lucy and Hans Luquire; Renasant Bank; and Paula and Nelson Smith.
