Volleyball Roundup: Sept. 14

Prattville Christian Academy swept through five matches without dropping a set in winning the championship of the Charles Henderson Invitational over the weekend.

Prattville Christian 2, Pike Road 0

PIKE ROAD – Prattville Christian defeated the Patriots in a best-of-three series on Tuesday, winning 25-14 and 25-17 in the Pike Road gym.

Coco Thomas had seven kills and a block, Lennon McAnnally had six kills and seven digs and Victoria Wheeler had six kills and a block to lead the Panthers. Hannah Jones had two kills and three blocks, Dasha Dillard had three kills and three digs, Ella Jane Connell had 14 assists and a pair of aces, Baylee Rogers had eight assists, Emily Kamykowski had an ace and seven digs, Sydney Jorgensen had three digs and Makenna Simpson had a kill.

PCA (16-3) will travel to Enterprise for a tournament this weekend.

Hooper Academy 3, Autauga Academy 0

HOPE HULL – The Colts swept the Generals in a best-of-five area match at Darrell Self Gym on Tuesday night.

Millie Seithalil had nine kills, two aces and two blocks, Grace Seale had six kills, two aces and a block, Annie Bressler had six kills and an ace and Mary Frances Bressler added 14 assists and three kills to lead the Colts.

Hooper (7-1) continues area play on Thursday with a match at Edgewood Academy.

Prattville Christian 3, Catholic 0

Prattville Christian held off Catholic in an exciting set, then finished off the Knights in three sets to remain undefeated in 3A Area 6 action on Monday night.

PCA won 25-20, 32-30 and 25-23 in the Catholic gym to improve to 15-3 overall and 2-0 in area play.

Lennon McAnnally had 20 kills, 16 digs, and an ace, Victoria Wheeler had nine kills, five digs and a block and Ella Jane Connell had 19 assists, eight digs, an ace and a kill to lead the Panthers. Hannah Jones had 10 kills and a pair of blocks, Coco Thomas and Dasha Dillard each had 10 kills, Emily Kamykowski had 20 digs, eight assists and an ace, Sydney Jorgensen had five digs, three assists and two aces, Baylee Rogers had 18 assists and six digs and Sally Swindall had two digs and two blocks.

PCA will travel to Pike Road for a match on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Alabama Christian 3, Tallassee 0

The Eagles rescheduled a Monday tri-match with a game against the 5A Tigers on Monday afternoon, sweeping Tallassee 25-10, 25-14 and 25-21 in the ACA gym.

Leighton Peake had six kills, Claire Forrestor had six kills, Jordan Smithee had five kills, Michaelyn Manning had 20 assists and six aces and Lynleigh Stephen had eight aces to lead the Eagles.

ACA remains home to play Prattville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Prattville Christian 2, Straughn 0

TROY – The Panthers swept through five matches without dropping a set, defeating Straughn in two sets in the finals to win the Charles Henderson Trojan Invitational last weekend.

The Panthers beat Charles Henderson, Straughn, Luverne and Greenville in pool play, then advanced to the finals where they faced Straughn again.

Victoria Wheeler had 22 kills, five aces, a block and seven digs, Lennon McAnnally had 18 kills, nine aces, 21 digs, and a block and Ella Jane Connell had 61 assists, 13 digs, three kills and nine aces to lead the Panthers. Hannah Jones added 22 kills, five blocks and six digs, Sydney Jorgensen had 11 aces, 16 digs and a pair of kills, Emily Kamykowski had 10 aces and 25 digs, Coco Thomas had 20 kills and a block, Baylee Rogers had 20 assists, four digs and an ace, Dasha Dillard had nine kills and three digs, Chelsea Mulliner had four kills and six aces, Naomi Taake had four kills, three digs and an ace, Sally Swindall had two kills and a pair of blocks, Makenna Simpson had two digs and Avery Rogers had three aces, three digs and a kill.

With the five wins, Prattville Christian improved to 14-3 heading into a Monday match at Catholic.
