DAPHNE -- Trinity pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Bayside Academy 5-4 to force a third and deciding game in the best-of-three series.
Bayside Academy (22-6) won the first game 3-2 in eight innings, scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth to end the first game in dramatic fashion. Trinity, designated as the home team in the second game, pulled off a similar feat with a run in the bottom of the ninth in the second game.
A third game on Saturday at noon will decide the final team in the 3A quarterfinals. Opp (24-5), which swept Excel on Friday, will either play host to Bayside Academy or travel to Whittle-Armstrong Field next week to play Trinity.
William Roberson scored both of the Wildcats’ runs in the first game. He singled, stole second and scored on a Grayson Ashe RBI single to tie the game at 1-1 and added another run on an Ashe single after doubling.
In the second game, Trinity forged ahead briefly in the fourth inning, 2-1 before the Admirals rallied to tie the game. Bayside took a 3-2 lead in the seventh, but Trinity rallied to force extra innings, then rallied again to end the game in the ninth.
