Catholic 58, BTW Magnet 25

Jalen Thomas and DJ Jamerson combined for 35 points as short-handed Catholic won its first game of the season by beating Booker T. Washington Magnet School 58-25 in the Catholic gym on Saturday.

The Knights (1-1) are without much of their roster as the football team advanced to the semifinals, but got 20 points, four steals and five rebounds from Thomas and 15 points, 20 rebounds and six blocked shots from Jamerson.

Catholic returns to action on Dec. 7 with a game at Autaugaville at 7 p.m.

Trinity 73, Pike Road 64

PIKE ROAD -- KJ Westry had 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead Pike Road, but it wasn’t enough to help the Patriots overcome Trinity in the 2020-21 season opener in the Pike Road gym on Thursday night.

Jaylen Washington added 12 points and Trey Wallace had 10 for Pike Road, which opens play in the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Basketball Tip-Off Classic at Montgomery Academy on Monday against Marbury.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Catholic 78, BTW Magnet 25

Jaye Bailey had 18 points and Harper Howell added 15 as the Knights defeated Booker T. Washington Magnet in the Catholic gym on Saturday.

Amiya Cleveland led BTW with 14 points.

Catholic (3-1) will play host to Alabama Christian on Monday.

Pike Road 53, BTW Magnet 14

PIKE ROAD -- Jazzlyn Johnson scored 16 points and dished out four assists to lead the Patriots to an easy win over BTW Magnet in the Pike Road gym on Thursday.

Sadie Davis added 11 points and had a pair of steals, Samone Patterson had eight points and two steals and Gracie Branham led the rebounding effort with nine boards along with two points and four steals.

WRESTLING

Saint James opened its 2020-21 wrestling campaign with a home quad match on Thursday, losing to Wetumpka’s ‘B’ team (42-33) before rebounding with wins over Beauregard (39-36) and beating an undermanned Beulah squad 72-12.

Granger Hicks led the way by pinning each of his three opponents.

Saint James (2-1) next competes in the Tallassee Duels Tournament on Tuesday.
