SMITHS STATION -- Macon East’s Hannah Parker doubled in the go-ahead run as the Knights broke an 8-8 tie in the top of the eighth and went on to defeat the AAA Gators in the season opener on Monday.
Taylor McKinney went 4 for 4 to lead the Knights, hitting a solo home run in the first inning, a single in the third, another home run in the sixth and a triple in the eighth.
McKinney also picked up the win in the circle, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out seven and walking one in a complete-game performance.
The game went into extra innings when Abby Torres singled in the bottom of the seventh to drive in the game-tying run.
Macon East had taken an early lead with a home run by Devyn Debardelaben in the third as part of an 18-hit attack that included multiple hits from McKinney, Debardelaben, Georgia Blaze, Lathan Johnson and Kadence Ward.
The Gators came roaring back, pulling back into the contest in a four-run fifth. Simone Gillispie went 3 for 5 to lead Glenwood, while Taylor Dawson had a pair of hits and Mae Durham had a pair of hits, including one in the fifth-inning rally.
Ariana Pinder took the loss for Glenwood, allowing 18 hits and 14 runs while striking out five in a complete-game performance.
Macon East (0-1) returns to action today at home against Abbeville Christian at 4 p.m.
Macon East 12, Fort Dale Academy 0
GREENVILLE -- Kirkland Pugh pitched a one-hitter through four innings while striking out four to pace the Kinghts to a 12-0 shutout of Fort Dale on Monday.
Colby Cox and Barrett Spaeth each had a pair of hits and Spaeth, Jabe Boroff and Matthew Kitchens each drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Kitchens had four stolen bases as well as the Knights swiped 11 bases in the game.
Macon East (2-1) takes the field again tonight at 6 p.m. at Edgewood Academy.
Trinity boys win Hillcrest Round Robin Tournament
TUSCALOOSA -- The Trinity boys braved the cold with a blistering performance on the court, sweeping Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 8-1, Deshler 9-0 and Jasper 9-0 to take home the championship of the tournament.
In dropping just one of their 27 matches, the Wildcats got singles wins by Thomas Treadwell at No., Timothy Hornsby at No. 2, Luke Franklin at No. 3, Samuel Treadwell at No. 4, James Treadwell and Charlie Franklin at No. 5, Jon Paul Tankersley and Matthew Satcher at No. 6 and Parker Ensminger at No. 7.
Doubles teams of Thomas Treadwell and Hornsby (No. 1), Samuel Treadwell and James Treadwell (No. 2) and Franklin and Satcher (No. 3) also scored big wins for the Wildcats.
Trinity continues their season with matches against LAMP and Opelika this week.
