PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Montgomery American advanced to the championship game of the Dixie Softball World Series at J.E.J Moore Athletic Complex before falling to South Carolina, while Montgomery Gray reached the semifinals of their World Series in the same complex before being eliminated by South Carolina.

In the Darlings 8U bracket, Montgomery Gray’s game was rained out and pushed back a day, where the South Carolina team from Hartsville defeated the Alabama representative 13-6.

Montgomery Gray took a 2-0 lead before South Carolina rallied with five runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the second. Montgomery Gray got as close as 7-6 before Hartsville scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the momentum.

Layla Pelt had two hits and Sophie Yelverton had a pair of RBIs to lead Montgomery Gray.

In the other semifinal game, Sabine Parish put together a great pitching performance to give Louisiana a 3-2 win over Tennessee to hand the team from Sherman its first loss of the tournament. With three once-beaten teams remaining, Tennessee and Louisiana matched up with South Carolina awaiting the winner.

The team from Sherman defeated Louisiana 7-4 and South Carolina 10-4 to win the Darlings’ World Series.

In the Angels’ X-play tournament, Alabama walloped North Carolina 18-4 to advance to the championship game as the only undefeated team in the tournament, while Lancaster American, the South Carolina representative, defeated Virginia 14-1 to reach the finals.

In the championship game, Lancaster American defeated Montgomery American 10-9 and 18-13 to win the Angels’ World Series.
