Saint James won back-to-back games in its home gymnasium to win its second consecutive, and ninth overall, Capital City Conference junior varsity girls basketball tournament since the yearly CCC tournaments started in 1994. The Lady Trojans, who finished 11 - 1 in contested games, avenged their only loss of the season with a defeat of top-seeded Trinity 59-40.
Katie Brightwell hit a long bank-in 3 pointer at the buzzer at the end of the first quarter to give Saint James a commanding 17-4 lead. However, Trinity cut the lead to as little as four several times in the second quarter and trailed 27-19 at halftime.
The Lady Wildcats could get no closer than seven in the second half.
Lady Trojan Ava Card led all scorers with 30 points, many on breakaway layups or putbacks. Brightwell added 11 points.
Addison Cherry led the Lady Wildcats with 23 points despite picking up three personal fouls in the first quarter.
The Lady Trojans started the day with a 52-23 victory over Montgomery Academy. Hope McCain led the Trojan scorers with 14 points, followed by Card with 10.
Nora DeSantels (11) and Hayes Jenkins (10) scored all but two of the Lady Eagles' points.
All seven players dressed out for the Trojans scored in each of the two games.
