Montgomery Academy builds big lead, coasts to win over Monroe County

Montgomery Academy cruised out to a 28-0 halftime lead, then dialed it back in the second half in a 39-14 win over Monroe County at McLemore Field on Friday night.

The Eagles (7-2) completed 3A Region 3 play with a 6-0 record and will host Alabama Christian next Thursday to close out the regular season, then will face Flomaton on Nov. 5 in the first round of the 3A state playoffs.

Jamal Cooper ran for a touchdown and passed for another, while Judson Lindsey and Greer Armstrong added rushing touchdowns and DJ Vinson and Nigel Walker had touchdown receptions.

Cooper completed 2 of 3 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown and added 16 rushing yards and a touchdown. Armstrong ran for 29 yards and a touchdown and Lindsey ran for 25 yards and a touchdown and had 25 receiving yards as well.

Thomas Woodward also completed 2 of 3 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Jashawn Cooper was limited in his touches on Friday night, accounting for just 22 rushing yards.

Defensively, Lindsey led the Eagles with eight tackles, followed by Walker and Jashawn Cooper with six tackles each and Arch Lee with five tackles.
