The Montgomery Academy and Trinity golf teams saw their seasons come to a close on Monday at Arrowhead Country Club as both missed qualifying for the upcoming state golf tournament.

Both the 3A South sub-state boys’ tournament and the 3A South sub-state girls’ tournament were held at Arrowhead on Monday and the top two teams qualified for the state tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Mobile’s RTJ Magnolia Grove.

Houston Academy shot a 302 to win the boys’ sub-state, followed by Bayside Academy (316), Trinity (344), Montgomery Academy (363), Wicksburg (398) and Weaver (402). Jake McDonald and Matthew Streitman both shot a 72 to lead Houston Academy, while Luke Ferguson shot a 75 to win low medalist honors for Bayside Academy.

For Trinity, Sam Lee led the way with a 77, followed by Dawson Criswell (85), Thomas Stewart (90), Chapman Pouncey (92) and Mac Stewart (101). For Montgomery Academy, Breland Burnham’s 84 led the Eagles, followed by McRae Foshee (87), James Snead (93), Jones Corley (99) and Gabe Watrous (106).

Catholic’s Grant Smith was the low medalist with a 72. Smith and Weaver’s Nicklaus Ledbetter, who shot a 74, qualified for the state tournament as individuals.

Mobile Christian shot a 245 to win the girls’ sub-state, followed by Bayside Academy with a 254. (Only the top three golfers’ scores are counted). Individual qualifiers include Lauren Thompson of Providence Christian, who shot a 71, and Mary Katherine McNamara of Holy Spirit, who shot a 79.

Trinity placed third with a 264, followed by Holy Spirit (289), Westminster (295) and Weaver (319). Virginia Anne Holmes led the Wildcats with an 80, followed by Elizabeth Ann Stewart with an 89 and Eden Pendleton with a 95.

Haleyville and Fayette County were the top two qualifiers in the 4A-5A South sub-state boys’ tournament at Dothan’s RTJ Highland Oaks. Individually, the top two qualifiers were Bibb County’s Andrew Miles, who shot a 74, and Alabama Christian’s Andrew Whang, who shot a 78.

Northside and John Carroll qualified as the top two teams from the 4A-5A South sub-state girls’ tournament at the Sylacauga Country Club. Individually, the top two qualifiers were Pike Road’s Yvette Gorden, who shot a 75, and Alabama Christian’s Julie Waldo, who shot a 76.
