Catholic 56, St. James 54

Catholic built a comfortable 18-point lead in the third quarter before St. James staged a furious rally and pulled within two in a 56-54 win by the Knights in their season opener on Friday night.

DJ Carter had 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals to lead Catholic and Derrick Parker had 17 points before fouling out. Catholic, which led 31-15 at the half, had a chance to put the game away at the free-throw line with 3.4 seconds left, but missed free throws gave the Trojans one last attempt at a half-court shot that missed at the buzzer.

Pike Road 58, Verbena 25

PIKE ROAD – Freshman KJ Westry led the Patriots with 21 points as Pike Road won its first game in its Georgia Washington gym on Friday night. Pike Road (2-4) remains home to play Elmore County on Tuesday.

Prattville Christian 74, Westminster-Oak Mountain 31

Cooper Meadows led the Panthers with 32 points and 8 rebounds, including seven monster dunks in an easy win on Friday night. BJ Comer added 23 points, six rebounds and four steals. Ben Segars flirted with a triple-double as he added eight points, eight rebounds and 10 assists. PCA (6-2) will host Trinity on Tuesday.

Evangel Christian Academy 47, Success Unlimited Academy 44

Tyree Curry scored 15 points to lead Evangel to a big win over Success Unlimited in the Evangel gym on Thursday. Curry, a 10th grader, added four assists and five steals. Marcus Townsend had eight points and five rebounds while Jordan Grice chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds and Joseph Love finished with two 3-pointers for six points. The Lions (9-1) will host Lakeside School on Tuesday.

GIRLS

Prattville Christian 38, Westminster-Oak Mountain 28

Kaitlyn Reyes had 18 points and eight rebounds in Friday night’s game, passing Peyton Meadows to become the school’s career scoring leader in girls basketball with 1,656 career points. Ella Jane Connell added nine points, five rebounds and four assists and Tori DeMaio grabbed nine rebounds for PCA (5-3), which will host Trinity on Tuesday.

In the middle school game, Chelsea Mulliner had seven points, 14 rebounds and 11 steals and CoCo Thomas had 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals to lead unbeaten PCA (6-0) past Westminster of Oak Mountain 31-13.

Evangel Christian Academy 48, Success Unlimited Academy 18

Corryne Blanks had 15 points and Ellejae Reynolds and Karley Blankenship each added 13 as Evangel Christian (7-3) cruised to a 48-18 win over the Lady Mustangs on Thursday night in the Evangel gym.
