Evangel Christian 70, Eastwood Christian 33

Tyree Curry scored 14 points to help Evangel to the win over Eastwood in the final game of the Evangel Tip-Off Classic. David Werking added 13 points while Marcus Townsend and Kennedy Holland had nine points each. Jordan Grice and Jakolvian Johnson each chipped in eight points.

The Lions (3-0) will play host to Lee-Scott Academy on Thursday.

Evangel Christian 69, Hooper Academy 52

Tyree Curry had 21 points, three steals and three assists to lead Evangel to a win over the Colts in the Evangel Tip-Off Classic on Friday. Jakolvian Johnson had his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds along with five blocked shots. David Werking chipped in eight points and three steals while Marcus Townsend added seven points and Jordan Grice had six points and six rebounds.

The Lions (2-0) will play Eastwood Christian in the final game of the tournament on Saturday.

Trinity 49, Altamont 33

BIRMINGHAM – The Trinity girls got off to a sluggish start before finding some rhythm in the second quarter and pulling away for a win over Altamont in the 2019-20 season opener on Thursday night.

Brooke Avant and Emma Kate Smith combined for 28 points to lead the Lady Wildcats, who opened play with an aggressive defense that kept them in the game until the offense came around.

Smith had 15 points and four steals, followed by Avant with 13 points and seven rebounds. Mary Alice Sasser added seven points along with six assists and Kaylee Peevy had seven rebounds and took a pair of charges on defense. Mary Davis Bricken added six points and six rebounds and Maddie Smith had six points, five rebounds and four steals in her first varsity action.

Evangel Christian 57, Sparta Academy 39

David Werking scored 13 points to lead Evangel to the first win of the season over Sparta in the Evangel Tip-Off Classic on Thursday. Tyree Curry added 10 points, five steals and five assists while Marcus Townsend chipped in eight points and four rebounds. Jakolvian Johnson had six points and nine rebounds in his first game at Evangel.

The Lions (1-0) will play Hooper on Friday night at 7:30 and close out play in the tournament on Saturday against Eastwood Christian at 12:30 p.m.
