In Thursday’s rematch of last year's AISA Class A state championship game, the Lions rolled out to a 38-15 lead at the half and cruised to their 11th win in 12 games. Tyree Curry scored a game-high 11 points, five steals and two assists to lead Evangel in a blowout win. Jordan Grice finished with nine points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots and Aaron Todd added seven points and eight rebounds.

The Lions (11-1) will play Pike Liberal on Friday at 4:30 at the Macon East Pepsi Classic Tournament. In the second game of the tournament, Macon East will play Clarke Prep at 7:30 p.m. The winners will advance to the championship game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., while a consolation game for the two Friday losing teams will be on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Pike Road 62, Verbena 27

VERBENA – KJ Westry had 21 points and Shaun Holmes added 12 to lead the Patriots to their third consecutive win on Thursday night in the Verbena gym.

Pike Road (4-4) remains on the road, traveling to Highland Home on Friday.

Macon East Academy 42, Springwood School 34

CECIL – Madisyn Kennedy had 20 points and 20 rebounds to lead Macon East to a 42-34 win over Springwood on Tuesday night in the Macon East gym to remain undefeated.

Emi Lott added eight points for Macon East (6-0), which hosts the Macon East Pepsi Classic Tournament this weekend. The Evangel girls and Pike Liberal Arts open tournament play on Friday at 3 p.m. and Macon East will face Clarke Prep in an opening-round game at 6 p.m. The losing teams will face each other on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a consolation game, while the winners will play for the championship at 5 p.m.
