Montgomery - Danny Antonio Kamburis fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, April 23, 2021 to be reunited with his loving wife, Ria. Danny was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all. Danny was preceeded in death by his loving and cherished wife, Ria; parents Tony and Irene Kamburis; brothers John, Charlie and Michael Kamburis; sister Anna Kamburis. Danny is survived by his daughter Angela (Dr. Tom) Kleitches, son Michael Kamburis, granddaughter Demi Kleitches, and sister Maria Kamburis. Danny was one of 6 children born and raised in Montgomery, AL to the late parents, Tony and Irene Kamburis of Patmos, Greece, owners of the Union Coffee Shop. Danny graduated from Stark University then enlisted in the United States Air Force. After enlisting, he served in the Korean War. He often told stories of his time overseas and considered it an honor to serve the country who gave his family opportunity. After returning home, Danny attended Huntington College where he received his bachelor's degree in 1960. In 1961, he became a mason with the Andrew Jackson Lodge #173 of Montgomery, AL and later became a Shriner. After graduation, Danny began his career with the ALDOT where he continued for 38 yrs. He married his great love in 1968. Danny and Ria were married for 50 yrs. and had 2 children. Danny was a lifetime member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of which his family co-founded. He was a member of the AHEPA and ran the drive thru line at the Annual Greek Orthodox Labor Day BBQ, a Montgomery tradition. Danny had an infectious smile and never met a stranger. Danny was a wealth of information when it came to cars and everyone knew it! Danny was even under the hood of a car when Tommy asked for Angela's hand. At 89, just a few months shy of 90, he lived a full and robust life. He was a miracle man overcoming many health obstacles. He never grew old, still good looking, young at heart, full of jokes and always acting like a kid. He saw many things throughout his life and probably tried everything once. Danny loved antique cars, drag racing, motorcycles, fishing, hunting, dancing, coaching baseball, and the arts. He was a family man and without a doubt he could not bear any more time away from his beloved wife. We are confident they are together again at last. Ria is dancing, while Danny claps and eats his cake, watching down on their families from above. He spent his last years surrounded by his son, crew, and lots of cars at Troy Automotive Group … it was the icing on his cake! He went to work on Monday and passed away on Friday. He will be remembered for his strength, humor, resilience, wit, wisdom, and his sweet smile. He will be deeply missed by all.
