Charles Ray Owen, 78, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020. Charles was born in Holmes County, Florida, and spent his childhood in Mitchell County, Georgia. He graduated from Pelham High School. From there he went on to South Georgia Junior College, then graduated from LaGrange College with a degree in English. Charles taught English for one year, then began his 40-year career in the insurance industry. Over the years, he was an active member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery and Prattville. He faithfully served in various ministries of the church including visiting senior adults with the In-Home Ministry; distributing donations through the Caring Center as well as cooking and serving meals in the kitchen at FBC Montgomery. He and Barbara went on numerous mission trips, sharing the love of Christ all over the world.Charles loved his family and friends from all walks of life. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening and keeping chickens. He was known for his generosity; always sharing fresh eggs, flowers from his garden and home-cooked meals with others. Charles’ family chose to honor his legacy of generosity by making an anatomical donation to the University of Alabama in Birmingham. It is their hope that this donation will aid in the research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s.He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Starr Owen; Clair and Mark Fain and their children, Hays, Banks and Owen Bullington and Jennifer and John Mark Fain; Nickey Johnson and her children, Shelby and Tate Johnson and two sisters Reggie Knight and Sally (Wes) Whitfield.
