One of the River Region’s favorite holiday traditions will kick off at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 5, 2019 when Mayor Steven Reed officially flips the switch at the Montgomery Zoo to turn on thousands of lights for the 28th Annual Christmas Lights Festival.
So that more families and friends can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the holidays, the Zoo and Museum have greatly reduced the ticket price for the Christmas Lights Festival.
Each admission includes entry to Lights Festival to stroll throughout the Zoo seeing thousands of lights and holiday displays, visit with Santa, and enjoy the entertainment at the Overlook Café.
Regular Festival Admission: $10 (ages 3 years old and older).
• Toddlers 2 years and younger are FREE.
• Montgomery Zoo members: FREE
• Train ride is only included with those memberships having the train ride as part of their membership.
• No GUEST PASSES are allowed for entry during the evening event. Only the people listed on the membership card will be given free admission.
Christmas Lights Ride Package
• $10 for unlimited train and Zoofari Skylift rides. Rides are limited to same night and for the evening event only. Early Bird Admissions will have to return to the Gift Shop to purchase at 5:30 pm.
Individual Christmas Lights Festival attractions:
• Train ride: $3 per person, per ride
• Skylift ride: $5 per person, per ride
• Visits with Santa through December 23: FREE
• Photos with Santa: $5 per photo
“We are excited about this year’s Christmas Lights Festival. We have lowered the admission price, added more activities and entertainment, and are still working to add more for families and friends to enjoy”, said Melanie Golson, Marketing and Public Relations Director. “An evening strolling through the zoo, riding the train or Skylift is a perfect way to slow down from the hustle and bustle of the season and just enjoy the sights, sounds and of course smell of the holidays” she continued.
While the kids are out of school and extended family is in town why not enjoy an afternoon at the Zoo and the lights too. Early Admission & Christmas Lights Festival tickets are $25 (ages 3 and up) includes daytime admission to the Zoo and the Christmas Lights Festival. Guests are welcome to enjoy dinner at the Overlook Café that will be open extended hours until 9:00 pm or keep your wrist band on and leave the park and return then the Festival gates open at 5:30.
Get your friends and family and enjoy the night as a group. Groups of 20 or more can purchase admission tickets for $9 per person on the Zoo’s website. Group tickets must be purchased and paid in one order. Group discounts will not be given at the gate.
The Festival will continue through the holidays December 5-8 and 11-25. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the last admission at 9:00 p.m. Gates close promptly at 9:30 p.m. The Zoo and Museum will be closed on Christmas Day to allow our employees to spend the day with their families, but gates will open that night at 5:30 to enjoy the last night of the festival.
Performers and entertainment groups will help bring in the holiday spirit with the gift of dance, song, and music on select nights. Groups comprise of local schools, church organizations, clubs, dance troops, local musicians, storytellers and more. It is always fun, entertaining, and a great way to help usher in the joy, lights, and sounds of the holiday season. The entertainment schedule will be posted on Montgomeryzoo.com as dates are confirmed, so check back often to see who we have added.
The petting zoo animals will be in their corral and would love for kids, young and old, to stop by and give them a snack through the fence. Feed packs will be available for purchase in the vending machine adjacent to the petting zoo.
The Overlook Café will be open and serving regular menu items, as well as hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies, and other holiday treats.
