In conjunction with the National Association of Manufacturers, Montgomery, Ala., is celebrating National Manufacturing Month this October by opening its doors to hundreds of public school students with behind-the-scenes experiences showcasing the city’s top innovations in manufacturing and technology.

“In the U.S., 80 percent of manufacturers can’t find the skilled workers they need – it’s the most pressing issue facing the industry today,” said Judge Charles Price, board chairman of the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce. “Not only are these jobs in such high demand, they are also extremely lucrative and rewarding. Manufacturers have the highest job tenure in the private sector and offer workers the opportunity to utilize some of the most advanced technology available.”

With more than 265 manufacturing companies in the metro area employing 17,848 people, manufacturing is one of the top economic drivers contributing to Montgomery’s success. Throughout the month, companies like Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, American Klassic Designs, Montgomery Regional Airport, Alabama Robotics Technology Park, ALFA Insurance, Baptist Health Institute for Patient Safety and Medical Simulation, Alabama Power, Bishop Cabinets, Koch Foods, Whitefield Foods, Nutrien-Tech in Ag and Stamp Idea Group will demonstrate what they do while drawing attention to rewarding manufacturing careers.

“A career in manufacturing goes hand-in-hand with innovation, creativity and job security,” said Price. “During the month of October, we are excited to inspire the next generation of talent to show how they can make a difference through manufacturing in Montgomery.”
