With his new assignment to the Pentagon, Lieutenant General Sam C. Barrett is following in his father's footsteps, also assigned there in the 1970's. Lt. Upon retirement from active duty, he returned home to Montgomery and led the US Air Force Junior ROTC at Robert E. Lee High School for twelve years. Colonel Barrett’s son Sam (now Lt. General Sam Barrett) was an All-State football player (defensive back and punter) and captain of the track team for the Lee Generals. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1984. He and his father are both in the Robert E. Lee Hall of Fame.
General Sam C. Barrett’s nomination for a third star was received by President Trump in July of this year and confirmed by the United States Senate by voice vote on August 6, 2020.
