Church of the Ascension will install The Reverend Candice Burk Frazer as its Ninth Rector on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at 5:30pm. The Right Reverend John McKee Sloan will officiate the ceremony, and The Reverend Polk Van Zandt will give the sermon. There will be a reception honoring Reverend Frazer immediately following the installation ceremony in Ascension Hall. Reverend Frazer grew up in Selma, Alabama and went to college at Loyola University in New Orleans before transferring and finishing her undergraduate work at the University of Alabama. She started her career as a psychiatric social worker and then became a hospice social worker before going to work for the church as a youth and children’s minister on the parish level and as the diocesan youth ministry coordinator. She attended the University of the South, Sewanee, for seminary and graduated in 2013. Candice has over fifteen years of experience in church ministry, five of which was spent as Associate Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery. Reverend Frazer is married to Steve Frazer, and they have 3 dogs they adoringly call their “slobbering fur babies.”
